Cyber Porch—Cold Snap Effects on Ag; Manure Energy; Teen Livestock Auctioneer

Some folks used to sit on the front porch, sharing news and stories. Now most of us sit Dilbert-style in a cubicle as the digital world surges at us. Here are three ag-related stories we’re talking about today on our front porch.

Cryogenic Conditions:  According to this report, freezing weather across the United States will damage crops from winter wheat to oranges, and it is threatening livestock, sending cattle futures to an all-time high.

Manure to Energy:  A farm enterprise and an energy company are producing electricity via two methane digesters at the Circle Four hog facility just outside of Milford, Utah. And this blog examines manure use and the good old days of pitchin’ the poo. When the Post Nutritional Waste Hits the Fan

Teen Auctioneer:  The nation’s top livestock auctioneers compete, and an 18-year-old high school senior from Mississippi is impressing the contestants—and he is working with only one lung
